What a great term we’ve had so far. Hope you’re all super excited for Christmas. We’ve had lots of our students involved with the Panto Aladdin at the Nottingham Arts Theatre which you should definitely go and see! This weekend is our last class of the year (the 7th) where we’re doing a Christmas Jumper Day. We’re asking for a pound donation which will be going straight towards putting on our January showcase. Our senior students will also be singing carols for some local residents too! After this weekend we will see you all back in the new year on Saturday 4th January 2020.
On January 25th we’ll be putting on our annual showcase for parents. This is a relaxed performance allowing parents and carers to see some of the fantastic work the students have been working on. We hope you can all make it. The schedule for the day is as follows.
Everyone (Including Juniors) to arrive at 1pm for a rehearsal until 3pm.
At 3pm everyone is to be collected so we can set up the Loco Centre for the performance (it is at the Loco Centre).
Everyone is to be dropped off again at 4:30pm.
The first performance is at 5pm-6pm.
The second performance is at 6:30pm-7:30pm.
The third performance is at 8pm-9pm.
We’re cutting it fine with three performances but without them not all the parents and carers would get a chance to see it.
It’s £4 per person and £12 for a family of 4. These tickets will be available to buy after christmas.
Following on from our fantastic production of Sister Act, this next year we’ll be performing Oliver! We will be putting on this show at the Nottingham Arts Theatre between the 7th-11th July for 6 performances! We’ll be running some workshops in the beginning of next year ready for auditions, which will be open to all.
10th January – Adult workshop
17th January – Adult Audition Preparation (Music)
24th January – Adult Auditions for Parts
26th January – Kids auditions and adult company auditions
31st January – Full company read through
If you or anyone you know is interested in being a part of this show please get in touch with us!!!
Our Junior show this year is Annie JR and will be performed at the Nottingham Arts Theatre on 4th April (2pm & 7pm). We saw so much talent from everyone who auditioned and can now share the full cast list with you!
We’re taking on a considerably more modern setting this year with our play Punk Rock. It revolves around 7 teenagers attending a private school in the midst of preparing for their mock exams. It explores some difficult and dark content that is quite shocking so whilst it’s definitely worth seeing we recommend being over 15. Some of our senior spotlighters will be performing this and based on the rehearsals we’ve had its going to be incredible! We’ve also got our very own Maddie Keown Assistant Stage Managing this piece, and, as the director, I can confirm she’s more organised than me! This will be on at the Nottingham Arts Theatre between 19th-21st March.
Stand In The Spotlight…
Our Annual showcase will be on Saturday 18th of July at the Playhouse (Time TBC). This is the big one! Our annual showcase of all our super talented students. Whether you want to beam with pride at your little ones performing on the Playhouse stage or see new upcoming talent perform, this is the one to come and see.

We would like to wish you all Merry Christmas and a happy and healthy New Year.
We hope everyone is happy with the new uniform. As some of you are aware this is a new company and we had a little trouble with delays etc. We’re hoping we have sorted this now and the next order won’t take as long. We will be placing another order at the beginning of next term, so please get your orders in.
We would also like to remind you that we stock dance shoes at the school and would encourage people to purchase the shoes from ourselves. Our price list is on the notice board. Please speak to Sophie if you have any questions about this.

Spotlight Company Auditions…
This year, auditions will be held for everyone who wants to be in the Spotlight Company show ‘Sister Act’. These will take place on Sunday 13th January 2019 at the Loco in Netherfield. There will be two weeks of preparation, which will be held on 4th & 11th January at the Loco from 7:00pm-9:30pm. If you are wanting to be in the company you will HAVE to audition. So, if you are auditioning for a named part in Sister Act then this will count as your company audition. Newsletter – September 2018
Welcome back to another exciting year at Spotlight theatre. We have lots of things planned throughout the year which we hope you will love.
This year we have an office space at the Nottingham Arts Theatre from which we will work on Fridays, so if you need to contact us, Friday should be the day you will get a response.
We really want to encourage students and non students to join our New Choir class with Patrick McCrystal. The lesson will be at 11am on Saturdays. It will be £4 a session (pay as you go) and we would like it to be a mixed group of children and adults. If anyone is interested in this please feel free to ask us.
Unfortunately Miss Jessica Royce won’t be with us for the first term back as she’s taking a well deserved break. Here is a message from her: ‘I’ve had a difficult year with changes to my work alongside some personal issues and while it isn’t something I wanted to do, I feel it is the right time for me to take a break from Spotlight to focus on myself. I ask that you support me during this time and hope to be back after Christmas and the Parents Showcase’.
We said goodbye to Jake at the end of last term as he will be concentrating on his career in teaching and his Masters Degree. He will be missed this year and we wish him all the best for the future. Barbara has also decided to leave Spotlight at this time to focus on her other job. We’re sure she will still be around though, popping in with the girls. Although it’s sad to say goodbye it’s also very exciting to have newbies on board, like Sophie Petruccio-Hall & Patrick McChrystal. As some of you may know Sophie will be joining us as a Dance and Drama tutor, also as Admin Assistant this year and we want to wish her a warm welcome to Spotlight Theatre. Sophie trained with a local dance school from the age of three and has many dance and singing qualifications. She also teaches Gymnastics weekly for another school in Nottingham. Patrick is originally from Doncaster and moved to Nottingham to study at the University of Nottingham, which is where he now works. Paddy has lots of experience of performing including Grease (Doody), Jesus Christ Superstar (Jesus), West Side Story (Riff), A Chorus Line (Mark), Jack & the Beanstalk (Jack) & Legally Blonde (Emmett). Welcome to Spotlight Theatre Paddy, we look forward to hearing from all your singing classes.
Also on board for another exciting year here are Laura Ellis (Dance and Drama), Ella Greenwood (cover tutor), Cassie Hall (Drama), Jess Hardy-Turner (Drama), Georgia Hodgett-Young (Dance) and Bethany Wear (Dance and Drama). We are delighted to have such a dedicated team involved; they are an inspiration to the students at Spotlight Theatre and a credit to the school.
Another important team member is Tom Mowat who you won’t see about much at Saturday sessions but you will come across him during shows. He focuses on the lighting design and production management. Finally, someone who we can’t forget is Nigel Newton. Another member who works behind the scenes. He is our Deputy Stage Manager and also builds sets for our Shows.
A spotlight theatre t-shirt will be given out as part of the registration fee of £35. These will be given out after October half term. Our basic uniform is a Spotlight T-shirt, Black legging or joggers & black jazz shoes. There will be lots of different garments and accessories to purchase and we will have a brochure for you to view these before you purchase. You may like to buy these sort of things for Birthdays and Christmas presents! Also, this year we will be ordering in dancewear and dance shoes for you to purchase through the school. If you have any questions about this please speak to Sophie.
We will be offering professional headshot sessions in the near future. These will be images that make your spotlight profile stand out and present you in your best light. If you are interested in this please ask us for more information. The sessions will be available after October half term.
