Spotlight Theatre

Developing the skills and the confidence to stand in the spotlight.

About us

Spotlight Theatre is a great opportunity for people to make friends, find a passion and experience the varied world of performing arts.

With dozens of different roles being taken on in the world of theatre, from performers and directors to technicians and artists, there is a place for everyone. At Spotlight Theatre we take the time to help people find their talent and nurture it. Whether they want to sing from the rooftops or design the rooftops themselves, each part is as vital as the next. We want you to have fun whilst learning important skills that can be applied to all aspects of life as well as the performing arts.

Our standard Saturday classes will focus on drama, dance and singing. Specialist tutors will work with Spotlight Theatre to bring you the best experience we can. All our tutors have experience of performing and teaching and are DBS checked. Most of the Spotlight Team are also NCC trained Chaperones. We will visit other theatres and venues to see productions and to do workshops. Don’t be afraid to ask for more specialized classes. If the demand is there we are more than happy to meet it.

The work we do each week will develop and lead to regular performances and presentations. Spotlight Theatre also aims to produce one full-scale Junior/Inter production, one company production, one Senior production, a drama focused piece such as a play or entering a one act play competition (we’re also experimenting with short films!) and a full school showcase each year in a local theatre.

From September we will be offering LAMDA Examinations for Solo/Duo & Groups in Musical Theatre. LAMDA exams are a lot of hard work but bring great rewards. There is an entry level grade followed by Grades 1 to 8.
Objectives of the Qualification:
1. Interpretive Skills – Exploring style, character, subtext and context in order to realise the specific demands of the musical text. To create & inhibit the world of the scene within the song.
2. Technical Skills – Develop skills in voice, diction and movement.
3. Knowledge of the Performance Process – To know & understand the chosen material.
Initially there will be 4 slots available on a Saturday morning with Sam, our singing tutor, and Amanda.

It’s not just for kids! We have adult classes through our Spotlight Theatre Company. Passionate performers or curious newcomers of any age are welcome to get involved and perform in our annual play and/or musical and learn some new skills along the way.

Students are required to wear Spotlight Uniform for all classes (don’t worry a t-shirt is included in the membership!)

Classes are held at the St George’s Centre, 91 Victoria Road, Netherfield, Nottingham NG4 2NN. There is local parking and Netherfield is on bus route 44 from the city.

All abilities are welcome. Disabled access and facilities.
